I live, work and travel between China and Canada, and travel extensively to other countries. My life is quite nomadic, and any sense of belonging to "place" has been stretched between geographies, cultures, languages, and politics. My transitory existence has provided me with lenses to watch expanding, and at times colliding cultures. My art practice is based on the idea of me remaining a “constant stranger" that is always becoming the place that I am in and always in- flux. My work is "Fluxus-like" in that it is a response to everyday moments and never specific to any medium. I learn what it is I need to do to make my work. All my work points towards the aesthetics of urban consciousness.
My current work is entitled “Sounds and Visions”, and is an ongoing exploration into the phenomenon of what happens in between how we experience the delay between what we see and what we hear - that results in a form of cinematic praxis. Selected mediums include photography, audio-video, audio, sculpture, and performance.
As a curator, I work have worked for museums in Canada and China and have had years of museological training. My independent curatorial research explores a concept I call 3rd Practice Projects. It is a reflexive exploration or collaboration with artists and exhibition-making.

M
y practice is in two distinct parts:  a "museum" approach as well as something I call "3rd practice".  The 3rd practice is a hybrid collaboration between selected artists and myself, in a system where we produce together through a system of  "call-and-response".  My curatorial practice is influenced by my art practice in that my focus is to locate social and theoretical dynamics; researching artists and histories that aim to locate the  "present".  I am interested in how the global affects the local, and how the local effects the global.

Jus' Toyin Around , "3rd Practice", was an international Exhibition held in Winnipeg, Canada, July 2017. It featured 12 artists from around the world, two local poets ( Grant Guy, Glen Johnson) and myself on bass guitar.
